Summer Spotlight 2019: Camp Argo and Nor’easter Lacrosse | Milford Moms Network

With the Summer quickly approaching, I know that most parents are wrestling with camp choices, activities, and schedules for their kids.  With that said, I am so happy to highlight two organizations this season that fit the bill and are sure to keep your child(ren) active, engaged, and surely wishing the Summer would never end!

Camp Argo is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and embrace the philosophy that “Everyone can be a HERO!”  At Camp Argo feels strongly feel that it is important for your child to grow through interactive play, traditional and non-traditional sports, arts and crafts, and other creative outlets in a safe learning environment.

Camp Argo believes in empowering campers of all abilities to dream big, be kind to one another, find their strengths, try their best, and learn to lead by example.  To us, this is the definition of a HERO!

They also offer an Autism Inclusion Program which allows those campers on the spectrum to walk side by side with their neuro-typical peers to enjoy all the benefits of a summer camp experience.

Quick Facts About Camp Argo!

1.  Camp Argo is an outdoor recreational day camp for all campers ages 4 – 14 yrs. located at Camp Cedarcrest in Orange, CT.

2.  Summer 2019 weekly session dates start Monday, June 24th and end Friday, August 16th.

3.  Their full camp day is from 9am-4pm with optional extended camp beginning at 7:30am and ending at 5:30pm.

4.  E.S.Y. 1/2 Day Afternoon option (12-4pm M-Th and ALL day Friday 9am-4pm) for those attending Extended School Year or Summer School.

5.  Per Session Summer Rates: $250 (1st camper) $225 (each sibling) $200 (ESY Afternoon).

6.  Some activities include archery, arts/crafts, fishing, GoKarts, climbing wall, collaborative games, songs, and so much more.

7.  They also offer an Inclusion Program serving those in our community with special abilities.

Nor’easter Lacrosse

Clarissa Clarke, co-director and owner, started Nor’easter Lacrosse with Laura Field in 2005. Since it’s inception, it has become one of the most highly sought after lacrosse clubs in Connecticut. Clarke and Field have tremendous connections in the lacrosse community and are able to provide consistent high quality coaches for all of their teams throughout the year. They have built a lacrosse club that is becoming one of the most widely respected both among parents and players in Connecticut, college coaches, and the larger lacrosse community.

Entering it’s eighth season at Hamden Hall, the Nor’easter Girls Lacrosse School is under the direction of Clarissa Clarke, Laura Fields, and Betsy Vendel.  Betsy, who serves as the daily director of the camp, played four years of varsity lacrosse for Newtown High School.  She then continued her playing career at Division 1 Central Connecticut State University.  During her Freshman year, Betsy earned Rookie of the Year honors.  During her Sophomore year, Betsy was selected Second Team All Conference, and completed her career by being named First Team All Conference in both her Junior and Senior years. Betsy was elected captain of the CCSU squad during her Junior and Senior years, and was awarded MVP honors in both of those seasons.  For her career at CCSU, Betsy holds the records for career points, assists, and draw controls.  Betsy currently serves as the Head Coach at Southern Connecticut State University, and is a head coach for the Nor’easter Club Lacrosse program. The Nor’easter staff pride themselves on providing a fun camp experience for all campers, regardless of age or ability.  The Nor’easter staff will provide an excellent learning experience for campers of all abilities as they share their infectious enthusiasm for teaching lacrosse.  Camp hours will be from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  (Camp will include girls from Grade 3 and up.)

Nor’easter Lacrosse is back for another year to offer the area’s best Girls Lax camp!  For the player who is looking to take their game to the next level or the beginner who wants to learn the game, this camp is for you!  Instruction from Wesleyan University and Fairfield University coaching staff will include skill development, techniques for stick work, shooting, defense, offense, and live game-play action!  LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE!

July 29 – August 2

Camp Fee:
$250 per week ($225 for current members) (Nor’easter Girls Lacrosse Camp only: 9am-12pm)
$375 per week (Full day w/ afternoon UItimate Sports Camp Grades 3-6 only, $350 for current members)

Age Groups:
Grades 3-8

Required Equipment:
Lacrosse stick, mouthguard, goggles, water bottle
